Germany held a national preselection to choose the two songs that would go to the Eurovision Song Contest 1956.
It was held on May 1, 1956 and was presented by Heinz Piper.
"So geht das jede Nacht" and "Das Lied vom großen Glück" were the dual winners of the national selection, but neither prevailed at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest, which was won by the Swiss entry "Refrain", sung by Lys Assia.

Following the dominance of English language songs, particularly Sweden's 1974 victory (with Abba's Waterloo), a rule was passed in 1977 that the song had to be sung in one of the official languages of the performing country.
Hosting the Eurovision Song Contest is an honour accorded to the winners of the previous year -- although it means that the winner's home broadcaster actually incurs heavy expenses as a result of winning and this has led to suggestions that some nations deliberately choose substandard acts so as to ensure they do not win.
Many viewers of the contest view the event as a combination of camp entertainment and a musical train wreck (a fact played upon in the English-language broadcast with the sardonic BBC commentary of Terry Wogan) and a subculture of Eurovision song contest drinking games and the like has evolved in some countries.

The Eurovision song Contest started in 1956 and has the stated mission: “to stimulate the output of original high-quality songs in the field of popular music by encouraging competition between authors and composers through the international comparison of their work”.
The contest is taken much more seriously by some than by others and whilst it is officially the song which is important it has provided many performers with an opportunity to develop their international career.
It is a stipulation of the contest that the entries should be chosen from a national competition.

With Mireille Delanoy as the presenter, the contest was won by Isabelle Aubret who represented France, with her song Un Premier Amour.
All 10 jury members points would then be added up and the song with the most points would get 3 points, the song with the second most points would get 2 points and the song with the third most points would get 1 point.

Télé-Liban has confirmed to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) the withdrawal of Lebanon from the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 (ESC 2005) to be hosted in Kiev by NTU, the national Ukrainian broadcaster, on 19 and 21 May.
According to Lebanese national legislation, Télé-Liban is not permitted to broadcast the performance of the Israeli participant, thereby breaching the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.
With 39 countries represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, this year shall hold the record for the highest number of participants.

The 49th Annual Eurovision Song Contest held in Istanbul took place over two days with a qualifying round and a final held in May. This DVD covers all of the footage from the shows as well as an interview with the winning entry, Ukraine's Ruslana with Wild Dances.
The songs sound great, with the notable ones being from Greece, Ukraine, etc. Also full credit to Turkey for not just putting on a great show but for sticking a ska/punk band in to the mix of the usual pop.
But this does not overshadow the complete fun that is the Eurovision Song Contest, if you are completely in love with Eurovision I suggest you get this right away, its sort of like having a CD, you skip back and forth to songs you like.

What harms the group is that they do not have a *real* video for their song.
This song fits into that pop-country crossover area, with the likes of Faith Hill, which thoroughly confuse radio stations who can't figure out where to put it, and so subject all of us to it.
Considering her confidence, enthusiasm, and passion for the contest, it's really quite a shame to see her at the bottom.

This puts it in breach of contest rules, which state that all countries taking part must show the entire event.
Lebanon was due to take part in the contest for the first time this year.
Eurovision's executive supervisor Svante Stockselius told Eurovision website ESC Today: "When we told them [Lebanon] they had to broadcast the entire programme, they decided to withdraw from the contest."

I love Eurovision, and I had always thought it a shame that I would not be likely to hear many of the songs after event.
A number of songs are really catchy, staying in your mind after a listen.
I really love the entries from Iceland, Germany, Russia (this song is not typically Eurovision, and had many people surprised to see tatu in the contest, yet I feel they performed a very respectable third!), Spain, France, Belgium and Romania.
