Gerard "Gerry" McNeil, a former goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, died on June 17.
McNeil replaced Canadiens' Hall of Famer Bill Durnan in the midst of the 1950 playoffs and backstopped the team to the Stanley Cup finals in 1951 and 1952.
Gerry Mcneil was my uncle and i would like to say that he was the gretest man to ever walk the earth.

Gerald George McNeil (April 17, 1926 – June 17, 2004) is a former professional ice hockey goaltender who won two Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1950s.
McNeil was so crushed by the Harvey own-goal, he retired to coach junior hockey the next season, but returned to the Habs in 1956 to earn his second Cup as back-up to Hall of Famer Jacques Plante (1956-57).
The Canadiens announced that McNeil died at Saint-Luc Hospital in Montréal, but didn't give the cause of death.

Gerry McNeil will forever be remembered for one goal he allowed?Bill Barilko's Stanley Cup-winning shot in 1951.

Born in Quebec City on April 17, 1926, McNeil attended his first training camp in 1943 at the age of 17.
In his first two seasons, 1950-51 and 1951-52, McNeil tended the net in all of the Canadiens’ games, both during the regular season and the playoffs.
After the 1956-57 season, McNeil played four more seasons in minor professional leagues before embracing his second career at the Seagram Distilleries, a job he would hold for the next 20 years.

Bill Barilko was not known for his offensive talent, yet scored one of the most famous goals in NHL history.
On April 21, 1951, Barilko lifted a shot past Gerry McNeil of the Montreal Canadiens for a goal at 2:53 of overtime that won the Stanley Cup for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In the off-season, Barilko was killed in a plane crash while on a fishing trip in Northern Ontario.
