The study found that inequalities in health persisted between Aboriginal people who lived off-reserve and other Canadians after socio-economic and health behaviour factors were taken into account.
Michael Tjepkema, found that Aboriginal peoples residing in cities and towns are generally in poorer health than the non-Aboriginal population.

B.C. Senator Gerry St. Germain, an outspoken critic of the bill, fears judges are determining policies that should be decided by conscience.
Senators rejected a Conservative motion stating the traditional definition of marriage is between a man and a woman, but that civil marriage is between two people.
The historic vote comes after gay and lesbian couples launched lawsuits in different provinces demanding the right to marry.

However, one of the senators can introduce the same bill into the Senate as a brand new bill when the Senate sits again, and it then must proceed through the entire Senate process of second reading, committee hearings and third and final reading.
Consequently, prorogation does not mean bills are completely dead, because, in theory, they can be revived when the House of Commons resumes sitting.

Ten years ago yesterday, May 1, 1986,Dr. Keon was the first Canadian surgeon to successfully perform an artificial heart transplant using the Jarvik artificial heart as a bridge to a human transplant.
Keon is a well-respected educator who has served as the Chairman of the University of Ottawa Department of Surgery.

She cited the famous photo of Stanfield fumbling a football while playing catch with reporters, even though he was athletic and caught the previous tosses his way, and another unflattering shot of him eating a banana.
Stanfield, who died Tuesday in Ottawa at 89, was exceedingly decent, honest, intelligent, witty, and decisive -- though never a match in the charisma department for his nemesis, the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau, they said.
