The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (in English: Society for the Friends of Music) was founded in 1812 by Joseph von Sonnleithner, the Secretary for Court Theatre in Vienna.
Of note to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde is its founding of Vienna's Conservatory and first public concert hall.
In 1870, they built the famous Musikverein in Vienna.
