  Helena (heilige) - Wikipedia

TRIDYMITE - LoveToKnow Article on TRIDYMITE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
The Roman city, Augusta Treverorum, was probably fortified by Augustus about 14 B.C., and organized as a colony about A.D. 50 in the reign of Claudius, but is not mentioned before the war of Civilis in 69 (Tacitus, Hist.
At first the Treveri resisted the appeal of Civilis and his Batavi to join the revolt, and built a defensive wall from Trier to Andernach, but soon after the two Treverans, Tutor and Classicus, led their fellow tribesmen, aided by the Lingones (Langres), in the attempt to set up a Gallic empire.
Far more extensive was the territory under the spiritual authority of th~ archbishop which included the bishoprics of Metz, Toul and Verdun, and after 1777 also those of Nancy and St Die.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Saint Eucharius
An amplification thereof, containing the lives of the three saints in question, is said to have been written by the monk Goldscher or Golscher, who lived in that monastery about the year 1130.
From the "Gesta" the narrative passed unchallenged into numerous medieval works.
More recent criticism has detected many contradictions and inaccuracies in these ancient records, and it is almost universally believed at present that, with few exceptions, the first Christian missionaries came to Gaul, to which Trier then belonged, not earlier than about 250.

So for example in the Gesta Treverorum, where in 1348 Baldwin of Luxembourg is named by his brother Emperor Charles IV as 'per totam Galliam et Germaniam tutor mamburnus'.
A further argument provide the Gesta Treverorum, which tell us how Henry's younger brother, Baldwin of Luxembourg, was raised at his mother's French speaking 'home-court' in Hainaut up to an age of 15 and then moved on to the University of Paris.
The physical epitaph is lost, but its content is preserved in the Gesta Treverorum and one of the lines refers to Baldwin as 'Luczenburch, Lymburch (…) generatus', thus placing both names just next to each other and giving them equal importance.

Salvian, On the Government of God (1930) pp.157-188.  Book 6
The dates of the four destructions of Treves here mentioned have been much discussed with widely differing conclusions.
The 12th century Gesta Treverorum described four captures of the city, but, ranging as they do from that of the "Greeks" under the Arian Constans in a.D. 380 to that of the Franks in 463, they do not suit the conditions required by Salvian's text.
The recent tendency has been to ascribe all four captures of the city to the Franks, and to set them fairly close together, emphasizing the phrase ter continuatis vicibus in VI.
