Get Over It - Movie Review
Get Over It at least has one thing that a lot of other high school movies don’ t: earnest, affable leads.
Unfortunately, most of their (and the movie’s) appeal gets lost among the stupid activities that dominate the plot--a chronically humping dog, punch spiked with vomit, a trip to a sex club.
The Get Over It DVD shows a forethought rarely seen in the teen romance genre, filled with extras and bonus material to such an extent that Paul Thomas Anderson would be embarrassed.

  GET OVER IT
The latest transformation from neglected classic to teenage tripe is Get Over It, a high-school take on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The thing that separates Get Over It from its ilk is the presence of the original work within the story, although in the somewhat unconventional form of a school musical.
Get Over It's protagonist is Berke Lawrence (Ben Foster, Liberty Heights), an integral part of his high school's basketball team along with best friends Felix (Colin Hanks, Roswell) and Dennis (Sisqó…seriously).
Get Over It was directed by Tommy O'Haver (Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss) — the man responsible for (unknowingly, I hope) unleashing the untalented force known as Sean Hayes on the world.

Get Over It - Rotten Tomatoes
As with most teen movies, Get Over It is entirely predictable, and there's not enough plot to sustain the length of the movie.
It's uneven, to be sure, but the charm of its leads and the good nature of its story overcome a lot of the movie's weaknesses.
Get Over It is mostly an amateur hour fiasco.

 Get Over It
The surest proof that the movie is dead in the water, even by its genre's undemanding standards, can be found in the way Kirsten Dunst, by far the movie's most proven and reliable young talent, keeps dodging out of her scenes—not acting badly, really, just trying to cover up that she's acting at all.
Dunst's presence in a movie that is in every respect beneath her remains a mystery that no one could possibly have the interest to resolve.
Get Over It extends the promise of perking up every now and then when Martin Short's old-school gay stereotype of a drama teacher pops on screen, but even his dependably goofy grins and dry punchlines can't breathe life into the lame duck O'Haver and Fleming hath wrought.

Get Over It High school senior Berke Landers just got dumped by his cheerleader girlfriend, Allison.
An accident-prone girl is responsible for a series of violent mishaps (a flashback shows her being run over by a dune buggy and landing in a coma).
Worse yet is the movie’s matter-of-fact treatment of premarital sex and its lone portrayal of parents as immodest, party-hungry swingers eager to shock and embarrass their son.

This movie even uses Shakespeare's work as a high school play in which all the key actors and actresses are leads, which is another of the battles --that of manipulations to be selected as one of the key parts.
And almost as a background fixture until late in the movie was Berke's third friend played by Sisqo (don't remember his stage name) who artistically flowers toward the end of the play in the movie and leads the ending musical piece.

The Trades - Movie Review: Get Over It
"Get Over It" will undoubtedly be passed over as just another teen movie of 2001 when all is said and done.
Characterization aside, the biggest problem with "Get Over it" is the sheer magnitude of how hard the director and writers were trying to force laughter from the intended underaged audience.
"Get Over It" is a dog right down to the obligatory flashback sequences to trace the love that develops between Dunst and Foster.

Berke's "sexually liberated parents," particularly the mother, encourage masturbation for the downhearted son and even gives him a packet of condoms for use when a party is held at their house.

The point of this mini analysis is that the movie producers are doing all they can to make R rated films for teens that receive a PG-13 rating.
Get Over It never gets off the ground and in spite of Kirsten Dunst doing her usual fine job, with the help of Ben Foster, the story was of little interest to me. Crude humor mixed with an updated version of a serious school play, and blossoming teenage love, separated faster than oil and water.

Despite its comic trappings, Get Over It is a love story at heart, and the smartest thing O'Haver did was to cast Foster and Dunst as the unwitting lovebirds.

Like other teen comedies, most of the cast is well into their 20s, and every adult in the film is the usual mix of simpleton neanderthals and parents who try so hard to be hip that it serves only as more of an embarrassment.

What I Thought: Dunst led last summer’s teen comedy Bring It On to excellent box-office, and the makers of this film were hoping she could do the same with this three-word-title teen comedy.
Worst Thing About It: The movie tries to increase the yuks by throwing in some physical humor- Berke’s shorts ripping off as he enters a basketball game, Kelly accidentally shooting Berke in the arm with a bow-and-arrow, Stryker getting blow across the stage during the play by an out of control prop.

So what do you get if you go to see "Get Over It?" If you can appreciate a teen film, for the dudettes you get a cute romantic comedy and some hunky-looking dudes.
But for the dudes, if you can stomach the romantic comedy, you also get Kirsten in a bikini, Kylie Bax bouncing around a beach in a bikini, some gross-out jokes, some masturbation jokes, and a dog humping a rubber tree.
