  "Get Ready"
The band decided to reinterpret "Get Ready," which had been a Top 30 hit for the Temptations in 1966.
By far, the most popular cut for air play was the long version of "Get Ready." Reversing the usual procedure, the hit album spawned a hit 45 -- a cut-down version of the song -- which took off in mid-March.
By June, it was one of the best-selling pop singles in the country, and was getting R&B play as well.

This song was first recorded by a band called The Cat and produced by Pete, on the Reaction label [released May 1966].
The reason why all four members of the group contributed songs to this album was that co-manager Chris Stamp had negotiated a deal whereby the song publishers, Essex Music, would advance £500 to each member, a considerable sum in 1966.

It appears on the "Nu songs as of 9/3" tape that also included "He Gives Speeches." The GV box set sourced it from a copy of the Dec 66 comp tape after the original mono mixdown tape disappeared from the tape library in 1989.
There is a Brian edit on the Dec 18, 1966 comp tape excising the next to last vocal section that was not replicated on the GV box set release of the track.
The first attempt at tracking the song on May 11, 1966 (2:45 in length) was unsatisfactory and taped over; it apparently included "My Only Sunshine" as a section of the song according to one of the session musicians.

The author took the call sign Viper-7 as chief FAC at Song Be, north of Saigon in III Corps.

This week, a second look (the first was back in October) at Motown's influence on the British Beat groups, with an entire show of the Brits delivering their versions of Motown favorites...including some rare concert, TV and BBC radio performances.
We don't promise a lot of love songs for Episode 28, as instead the focus this week is primarily straight ahead rock and roll (though there's one bit of melodic melancholia in the mix too).
For the last show of the year, READY STEADY A GO GO pays tribute to noted musical people we lost in 2006: We'll hear British musicians who passed over this year, as well as the songs of departed American artists as done by British 1960s singers/groups...including a special UK-slanted tribute to James Brown.

I have been vainly attempting to get my song for the England World Cup, "Party Like It’s 1966" accepted by various record companies…who will not do so because they are all capitalists who care not one jot for art.
Those are the top two sporting mentions of England Winning The World Cup in 1966, and I hereby propose a television programme, "I Remember People Remembering 1966" on which dozens of people all called Stuart (except for John Robb and some woman they’ve found who likes football) go on about 1966.
Because…are you with me on this people?…..1990 was the year that England got nearest to winning the World Cup since 1966, so people were remembering 1966 in 1990 even more than they had remembered it in other years such as 1974 and 1989.

The previous effort from Roscoe Mitchell's chamber jazz ensemble, the Note Factory, was the highly recommendable This Dance Is for Steve McCall, a session that, while showing tender and graceful moves from such a large group, often burned white hot.
On Nine to Get Ready, Mitchell guides his sound further into the contemplative territory Dance suggested--restraining this most powerful post-free-jazz band (including improvising titans like Matthew Shipp and William Parker) with compositions more about color and nuance than energy and direction.
The early '90s was a lull period for Roscoe, and he has recently reasserted his position in the jazz pantheon with the CD reissue of SOUND (1966) by Delmark, his pathbreaking and influential first record, and with a series of increasingly confident recordings.
