Get out the vote - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
GOTV generally is distinguished from preliminary activities necessary to carrying it out.
The importance of get out the vote efforts increases as the total percentage of the population voting decreases.
For instance, with only two thirds of the population voting in a Canadian election it is often far easier and more cost effective to ensure that a hundred supporters show up on polling day than it is to convince a hundred voters to switch support from one party to the other.

 Political Get Out the Vote
Get out the vote operations (sometimes called GOTV) are those activities that the campaign performs to turn voters out on Election Day — those tactics and strategies the campaign will use to get supporters to get up, go out, and vote on Election Day.
Get out the vote campaigns need to be targeted — that is, you need to make sure you are getting your supporters, and only your supporters, to go to the polls.
The goal of your get out the vote campaign is to identify who your supporters are, and get as many of them as possible to actually go vote.

GET OUT AND VOTE - News
Out-of-state students can vote in the New Hampshire primary today by going to the polls with a valid driver's license or a government-issued identification (something to prove your age and U.S. citizenship) and some document with their name and Durham address on it (something to prove your domicile in the town of Durham).
But, according to the law, a voter has 60 days to get a new license with Durham as the legal domicile and to register his or her car in Durham.
Getting to the polls is as easy as registering or receiving an absentee ballot.

Early and absentee voting has become the political rage this year because of laws passed by state legislatures since 2000, when the presidential election was tarnished by balloting glitches.
Political strategists say early voting is more important than in past presidential elections because the electorate is perceived to be more closely divided than at any time in the recent past.
The importance of getting business employees to vote early was a major emphasis of the meeting, in which Brian Lundy, a leading expert on early voting, spoke.

Get Out the Vote - Canvassing and Voter Turnout
After accounting for the higher probability of voting among those who are easier to contact, we found that door-to-door canvassing raises the probability of turnout by 9.8 percentage points.
Thus, for every 100 treatment subjects assigned to a canvassing campaign, 4.3 additional votes were mobilized through intended contact and another 4.1 votes were mobilized through incidental contact, or spillover.
For the 2001 local off-year elections the Youth Vote Coalition (drawing on volunteers from local PIRG chapters and ACORN) sought to mobilize young voters in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Columbus, Ohio, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Raleigh.
