  Gete Wami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gete Wami (born December 11, 1974 in Debre Berhan) is a female Ethiopian cross country and track runner.
Wami won the 2006 Berlin Marathon finishing in front of Alina Kosgei and Monika Drybulska on September 24.
Wami finished in second position during the race, nine seconds behind Mestewat Tufa who finished in 47:22.

Wami has five other brothers and sisters but she is the only one in the family to show any sporting aptitude.

Like her British rival, Wami, multi-medalled at the highest level, has also successfully made the transition to the punishing 26.2 miles distance - although less spectacularly.
Both have a brace of IAAF World Cross Country gold medals in their possession, Wami having beaten an unplaced Radcliffe in 1996 and three year's later in Belfast when the Briton finished third.

Since Wami and Tessema, a former Ethiopian international runner who now has a Dutch passport, got married on November 21 she has rattled off five wins in a row, four in cross country races and another on the road.
Wami is grateful though because, wherever her talent has come from, it has released her from a life even harder than all the effort she expends as a world-class runner.
