Gettysburg (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gettysburg was a 1993 movie that dramatized the decisive American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg.
It was directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, who also wrote the screenplay, adapted very faithfully, odten word for word, from the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1974 novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.
An editor's cut, with several extended or deleted scenes, was produced and sold as a part of a special VHS boxed set, which also included Mort Künstler's book of Gettysburg paintings, an original Civil War lead bullet, some stock photographs of key officers from the battle, and other items.

Gettysburg, Ronald F. Maxwell's re-telling of four hot days during the summer of 1863 (based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara), is a spectacle that gathers power and momentum with every scene.
The film is divided into two parts, with an intermission in between (the length of the intermission varies from ten minutes to twenty-five minutes, depending on theater management).
While this section of the film may be a little too talky, it is positioned immediately after the intermission when the audience is better able to tolerate a slower forty minutes.

The film was made at the actual locations where the battle took placein (give or take the odd concession to avoid filming war monuments) which gives a real sense of the space that the men had to fight in.
