Gezahegne Abera (* 23.04 1978 in Äthiopien) gewann als Marathonläufer die Goldmedaille bei den Olympischen Spielen 2000 in Sydney.

Abera won by just one second over the Berlin champion in two hours 12 minutes 42 seconds, the closest win in the history of the world championships.
