Origin: District Jyotiba Phule Nagarlies in the west of Moradabad District adjoining Meerut, Ghaziabad and Buland Shahar.
The district came into being on 24th April 1997 in the memory of famous social reformer Sant Mahatama Jyotiba Phule by combining Amroha, Dhanora and Hasanpur Tehsils of Moradabad district vide UP Gazette no. 1071/1-5-97/224/sa-5 dated 15/4/1997 whose headoffice is situated in the ancient city Amroha.
The District has been the part of Moradabad district in the past which was a part of ‘Sarkar of Sambhal’ of Delhi Province during the Akbar regime.

Earier, Togadia, along with his party workers, tried to enter Ghaziabad district at around 8:30 am from the Garhmukteshwar border area at Jyotiba Phule Nagar (Gajraula), but was sent to Delhi via Meerut, Ghaziabad SSP Chander Prakash told PTI.
The Allahabad high court, however, directed the administration to permit Togadia to enter the district to participate in a felicitation function at Gajraula.

In 1976 Ghaziabad and Hapur Tehsil was separated from Meerut district.
Under the marathas, the districts was included in the Saharanpur or Baoni division, which consisted of fifty two parganas and this arrangements continued till 1803 when, by a treaty, the Sindhia ceded to the British the whole of his possessions between the Ganga and Yamuna.
This position remained unaltered till 1824, when the Aligarh Parganas with Thana Farida and Dadri, were transferred to the new district of Bulandshahar and the paragans of Khatauli, Soron, Lalukheri, Jansath, Shamli, Baghpat and Jauli to the new district of Muzaffarnagar.

After the abolition of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Noida has been included in Ghaziabad district.
Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Bua Singh said during the ‘bundh’ called by ‘Gautam Buddha Nagar Zila Bachao Samiti’, protesters tried to disrupt road and rail traffic at Sector 19, Noida, the Delhi-Ghaziabad border and Dadri.
About 100 people including an MLA, were detained by police in Noida after they blocked road and rail traffic to protest the denotification of Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

Pradhan, however, clarified that peaceful agitation would continue on the issue till Gautam Buddha Nagar's status as a district was restored.
The Gautam Buddha Nagar Bachao Sangharsh Samiti would meet in Noida on Monday to convey the prime minister's assurance to samiti members and request people not to resort to violence.

A report from Ghaziabad said that five advocates attempted self-immolation by setting themselves on fire after sprinkling petrol before the district court in Greater NOIDA Phase II to protest against the scrapping of Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
The five advocates Sushil Bhatti, Shakti Mathur, CP Gautam, Sachin Nagar and JP Sharma were later admitted to the Vinayak Hospital with 20 to 40 per cent burns, according to the police.
