Ghia (Carrozzeria Ghia SpA) is one of the most famous Italian automobile design and coachbuilding firms, founded in 1921 in Turin by Giacinto Ghia (1887 - 1944).
Ghia also participated in the short-lived Dual-Ghia venture.
During this transition period, Ghia had partial involvement in the De Tomaso Pantera, a high-performance, mid-engine car with a 351 cu OHV Ford V8.

The Karmann Ghia is a two-seater sports car marketed by Volkswagen, designed by the Italian firm Ghia, and built by German coach builder Karmann.
Ghia took an already made, but unused design (originally Chrysler or Studebaker) and modified it to fit on a slightly modified Beetle floorpan.
Since the first Karmann Ghia's used the same 36hp engine as the Beetle, the car was not suitable as a true sports car; however the car's beautiful looks and "Beetle reliable" parts made up for this shortfall.

 Ford announces restructuring of Ghia design studio
The restructuring of Ghia S.p.A. includes a 95 percent reduction of operating staff, refocusing of the skill mix needed to operate an electronic studio versus a full-service coachbuilder, and the updating of the facility and equipment.
The Ghia studio will have five design staff working completely on the computer and will be charged with the development of new vehicle proposals, concept vehicles, and themes for high-series model trim levels for the Ford of Europe product line-up.
Ghia’s design proposals will be created and refined completely on the computer and then through data transfer to one of the Ford studios - Dunton, England or Cologne, Germany - a hard model will be milled for review and verification.

I finally found a Ghia for sale and bought it without a second thought, altough it took all the money I had or could borrow.
Ghia is my daily driver (or motorbike) at the summer and will be stored in warm and dry place for winters.
Note that Ghia is US-model, hence clear front blinkers, all red rear lights, towel-bars on bumpers and gear lock.

I purchased this 1972 Ghia on April 15th, 2002 in Long Island N.Y. It had to be one of the longest days I can remember.
After we loaded the Ghia on the trailer, I was given new directions from the seller that took me around everything on the way out.
By the time we made it home to Central Pennsylvania it was 10:30 P.M. I'm so glad I made the trip because the Ghia was worth all of the aggravation.It is in fairly good shape but does need some restoration.

 Glynn's Ghia - KG Diary 1999
Started to move the hood release lever which is dangling loose and mount it solidly to the underside of the dash (it normally mounts inside the glove box, which is made of cardboard), but after 30 years the cardboard is old and crumbling and the hood release lever probably tore off years ago.
Then I started polishing the LH side of the car, but only got about 3/4 of it, by then it was beginning to get too warm and the polish was drying too fast.
Also pulled off the 'Karmann Ghia' script chrome trim - the bottom part of the 'G' was broken -I had glued it down- will try and epoxy it back together tomorrow.

Dad had a tow bar welded for the occasion and they made the journey from houston in pretty good time all things considered...
We pulled the ghia up front and unhooked the tow bar, then drove it around back to the garage.
