Ghost (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ghost is a 1990 romantic comedy-drama-fantasy-thriller film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn and Rick Aviles, written by Bruce Joel Rubin and directed by Jerry Zucker.
The film is regarded as one of the best romantic movies of the 1990s.
Since he is not able to communicate with her directly, he uses Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg, who provides much of the humor in the film), an originally fraud psychic medium who suddenly discovers she really has the power to communicate with ghosts, albeit not seeing them.

kamera.co.uk - feature item - Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai by Sameer Padania
Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker) is an ascetic loner who shares his ramshackle rooftop home with a coop of homing pigeons and lives his life according to the teachings of an 18th-century samurai code, 'Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai'.
The film and its characters, aware of their own cinematic lineage but equally trapped by their inability to live up to it, appear acutely aware of the past and how it informs and comments on the present.
Ghost Dog's careful lack of history, his hybrid lifestyle, his affinity with pigeons and animals in general, his assumed name (to all intents and purposes he is a revenant, and to Louie he shows the faithfulness of 'man's best friend') all mark him out as a still, self-contained presence at the heart of the film.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (2000): Forest Whitaker, John Tormey, Cliff Gorman, Isaach De Bankol - PopMatters ...
One of the film's repeated jokes is his exquisite (and quite funny) samurai hit-style: he flips and spins his huge handguns so they whoosh with the impossible speed of a kung fu movie fighter, a device that manifests the movie's heady hybrid sensibility, combining images from Hong Kong action, samurai, gangster, and hood movies.
Caught between eras and genres, Ghost Dog is radically displaced and infinitely adaptable, as skilled with ancient warrior swordplay as with laser gun sights and electronic eavesdropping devices.
Though no one in the film learns from these lessons, the audience can appreciate their resonance: such brutality is hardly an urban, fl, samurai, or gangster problem, it's global and perpetual, cosmic and commercial.

According to some beliefs, a ghost may be the personality of a person after his or her death, and not directly tied to the soul or spirit.
They may suggest that, since few to none of us have ever had an interpersonal relationship with a ghost, but most or all of us have had an experience of self-delusion or have attributed a false cause to an event, that these options should be preferred in the absence of a great abundance of evidence.
Additionally, some urban legends, such as the "Hitchhiking ghost", turn upon an anonymous stranger (or Elvis Presley in a common variant) who is revealed to be a ghost in the clinch of the story.

Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai: Cinephiles Movie Review
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, revolves around its mythical character, a modern-day, New York contract killer who lives by the rules of an eighteenth century warrior text.
These concepts are further explored through Ghost Dog's highly stylized movements, which are enhanced by the use of chronophotography to produce a stroboscopic effect (causing Ghost Dog's movements to appear "ghostly").
The film portrays a world that houses the cultures of Japanese teachings, martial arts, mob iconography, hip-hop music (by THE RZA), and even classic cartoons, such as Woody-Woodpecker and Felix the Cat (which may be seen as satirizing the notion of violence through movement).
