A report on Tajik radio says that forces of the anti-Taleban alliance in Afghanistan have killed about 270 Taleban troops in fighting in the north-eastern province of Takhar.
According to the report - which is unconfirmed - the fighting centred on the settlements of Khojar Ghar and Dash-e Archi as the Taleban assembled forces for an attack on a stretch of the Takhar highway, which connects Takhar and Badakhshan provinces.
Another report on Iranian radio says fighting is continuing in Ghowr province in the centre of Afghanistan.
