Gia Lai province has a population of more than 1 million people from 34 ethnic groups.
The Catholic, Buddhist, Protestant and Caodai religions dominate Gia Lai province, with almost 220,000 followers, nearly a quarter of the province’s population.
He added that the U.S. also expected the Gia Lai authorities to continue with its open policies allowing social and economic organizations as well as individuals to visit and study the local situation.

Gia Lai (VNA) - Central Highlands Gia Lai province has obtained an average GDP growth rate of 11.1 per cent a year over the past five years, 2 percent higher than the average rate for the Central Highlands.
The figure was highlighted in reports by Gia Lai leaders to Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and Chairman of the Economic Commission of the Party Central Committee, during Sang's tour to the province on Sept. 17 and 18.
To date, 50 percent of the province's communes have universalised junior secondary education; all 193 communes and wards have their own medical stations, and nearly 400,000 ethnic minority people or 80 percent of ethnic minority population in the province have been covered by health insurance.

CENTRAL HIGHLANDS — Severe drought is threatening Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) provinces and has damaged thousands of hectares of crop, particularly in the provinces of Gia Lai and Dac Lac, an official said.
Gia Lai Province’s Chu Prong District’s rainfall was only 50 per cent of its normal annual rainfall, said Binh.
More than 5,000ha of cotton plants in Gia Lai Province are also under threat from drought, said Truong Cong Duyet, Director of the Gia Lai branch of Viet Nam Cotton Company.
