  Giambattista Marini
Giambattista Marini (or Marino) (October 18, 1569 - March 25, 1625), Italian poet, was born at Naples on the 18th of October 1569.
After a somewhat disreputable youth, during which he became known for his Canzone de' bad, he secured the powerful patronage of Cardinal Aldobrandini, whom he accompanied from Rome to Ravenna and Turin.
The licence, extravagance and conceits of Marini, the chief of the school of "Secentisti", were characteristic of a period of literary decadence.

 Giambattista Marini - Wikipedia

Drummond , William of Hawthornden Criticism and Essays   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-10)
Since many of his verses are loose translations or paraphrases of original English, French, and Italian poems, Drummond has been dismissed by some critics as a derivative artist whose works are unoriginal and conventional.
However, Drummond's admirers contend that he possessed a rare talent for translating and recreating the poetry of such artists as Petrarch, Torquato Tasso, and Giambattista Marini into well-crafted and highly original works.
Scholars note that although the pastoral style and structure of Meliades demonstrates a clear literary debt to Sir Philip Sidney, Drummond was able to recreate his source material in such a way that he fashioned his own unique perspective on such themes as the pain of loss, grieving, and what might have been.

Barthold Heinrich Brockes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brockes' poetic works were published in a series of nine volumes under the fantastic title Irdisches Vergnügen in Golt (1721-1748); he also translated Giambattista Marini's La Strage degli innocenti (1715), Alexander Pope's Essay on Man (1740) and Thomson's Seasons (1745).
His poetry has small intrinsic value, but it is symptomatic of the change which came over German literature at the beginning of the 18th century.
He was one of the first German poets to substitute for the bombastic imitations of Marini, to which he himself had begun by contributing, a clear and simple diction.
