The Giant Slalom is an alpine skiing discipline.
Giant Slalom (GS) racers ski faster than Slalom racers because a GS course contains less gates separated by greater distances requiring significantly less turns, thus allowing racers to pick up much more momentum.
Giant Slalom poles are usually bent to fit around a racer's body during a tuck and are not usually planted into the snow as vigorously or often as a Slalom racer's poles.

The Super Giant Slalom is an alpine skiing discipline.
It is usually referred to as "Super G." It involves skiing between gates as in the Slalom, and Giant Slalom, but is skied over a much longer course with, consequently, longer times between gates.
In an attempt to increase safety, the 2003-2004 season saw the FIS impose minimum ski lengths for the Super Giant Slalom for the first time; to 205cm for men, 200cm for women.
