  Gibraltar Point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is an area of approximately 4.3 square kilometres in Lincolnshire, England.
The reserve comprises two parallel ridges of sand dunes - the "east dunes" and the "west dunes" - separated by approximately half a kilometre of saltmarsh; and an area on the seaward side with further saltmarsh and sand, shingle and muddy beaches.
Gibraltar Point is an area of coastal deposition - at the end of the 18th century, the west dunes were by the shore, but they are now 1km inland.

According to Tito Vallejo in his article in the Gibraltar Chronicle, when Tariq landed in Gibraltar in 711, the Rock was named Jabal Al Fath and the town Medinat Al Fath, which mean the Mountain of Victory and the City of Victory respectively.
Gibraltar was recaptured by the Castilians in 1309 but was regained by the Moors in 1333 and held until 1462, when it finally passed from Moorish possession.
After the sacking of Gibraltar by the Algerian corsair Barbarossa II (Khayr ad-Din, 1483?- 1546) in 1540, the Rock was furnished with strong defences by command of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. On July 24, 1704, during the War of the Spanish Succession, Gibraltar was captured by combined English and Dutch forces.

The Toronto Island Ferry offers public service to the Toronto Islands, including Hanlan's Point, except during the winter season when a limited schedule is in effect.
On the weekends the ferry runs once an hour so if all you planned to do was see the lighthouse, make sure you walk at a brisk pace so you can get from the dock to the lighthouse and back in time.
At the ferry dock there's a map of the island where it points out where the lighthouse is.

Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust's Gibraltar Point is just south of Skegness on the northern flank of The Wash. The reserve comprises sandy and muddy shores, dunes, salt and freshwater marshes and scrub.
My visits have been around the summer bank holiday weekend, a time when some summer visitors are heading south or gorging on fruits and waders are passing through, and sometimes rarities like the Red-necked Phalarope and Long-billed Dowitcher (2004) are present.
