 Electric guitar:
Guitar virtuoso Steve Vai occasionally uses a triple-neck guitar; one neck is twelve string, one is six string and the third is a fretless six string.
An acoustic guitar's sound is largely dependent on the vibration of the guitar's body and the air within it; the sound of an electric guitar is largely dependent on a magnetically induced electrical signal, generated by the vibration of metal strings near sensitive pickups.
While the classical guitar had historically been the only variety of guitar favored by classical composers, in the 1950s a few contemporary classical composers began to use the electric guitar in their compositions.

 Guitar Biography,info
In electric guitars, transducers known as pickups convert string vibration to an electronic signal, which in turn is amplified and fed to speakers, which vibrate the air to produce the sound we hear.
Archtop guitars were immediately adopted upon their release by both jazz and country musicians and have remained particularly popular in jazz music, usually using thicker strings (higher gauged round wound and flat wound) than acoustic guitars.
A guitar using this tuning can tune to itself by the fact, with a single exception, the 5th fret on one string is the same note as the next open string; that is, a 5th-fret note on the sixth string is the same note as the open fifth string.

Gibson SG The Gibson SG is a model of solid-bodied electric guitar.
The new guitar was issued in the 1961 model year as a Les Paul signature model, but Les Paul himself disapproved of the change due to what he felt was a move toward cheap construction and a watered-down sound.
(The new guitar was, in fact, designed to be less expensive to build than the labor- and materials-intensive standard Les Paul model.) His endorsement contract with Gibson lapsed in 1962, and the guitar was renamed the 'SG,' for 'standard guitar' or 'solo guitar', by the end of the 1963 model year.

Gibson had sued for trademark infringement shortly after Paul Reed Smith introduced the Singlecut® guitar model in 2000.
Gibson argued that the Singlecut® model was too similar to the trademark registration it owned for its famous Les Paul®; model and created confusion in the marketplace.
The Sixth Circuit held that the trial erred by relying on specimens that Gibson submitted with the application showing the entire Les Paul®; guitar rather than the two-dimensional shape depicted in the application drawing to determine whether Gibson’s trademark was infringed.
