		Both Ben-Gurion and the chief prosecutor, Gideon Hausner, stated publicly that the trial aimed to construct “a living record of a gigantic human and national disaster,” and so educate both young Israelis and the entire world in the causes and consequences of the Holocaust.
		Hausner (who, like many Israelis, had lost most of his relatives in the Nazi death camps) called more than 100 witnesses, many of them death camp survivors.
		In reply to these critics, Hausner and other supporters of the prosecution insisted that justice demanded that Eichmann be brought to trial, and that the Israeli government had pursued the only course of action open to it.
