Gideon Tomlinson was born in Fairfield County, Connecticut on December 31, 1780.
Tomlinson was a congressman 1819-1827, governor of Connecticut 1827-1831, and senator 1831-1837.
The chief figures are Gideon Tomlinson (-1765) of Stratford, grandfather of the Connecticut governor; Jabez Huntington Tomlinson (1760-1849), father of the governor; Captain Joseph Tomlinson (-1774), brother of Gideon; his son Curtiss Tomlinson; and Stephen Tomlinson (1791-), son of Curtiss.

 Abstract:
Gideon Welles, a Glastonbury native, utilized his writing and editorial influence to direct politics in the state for fifty years, and exemplified the type of person that influenced a change in republicanism.
What Truman Smith and Gideon Welles brought to their respective party's was an early awareness of the transition in republican ideology and how it could be used to create large voting blocs.
Gideon Welles, as he began to assume more prominence in the editorial role at the Times, continually lashed out in opposition to the ideas of the New Haven group and eventually the banter between the Register and the Times would lead to the creation of a distinct two party arrangement in the state by 1829.

 HISTORY OF CINCINNATI AND HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO
Samuel Tomlinson was a son of Samuel and Ann (Garrison) Tomlinson.
Tomlinson is gifted with considerable literary talent, being the author of an illustrated book of poems: "Summerland and Other Poems." She writes for journals in Cincinnati, New York, and Pittsburgh.
Tomlinson is a member of the A. ; politically he is in sympathy with the Republican party.

 Our History
The main building was the next addition, and it consisted of six, large rooms, the principal's office and teachers' rooms with corridors that led to the old building in the rear and to the gymnasium wing.
The first high school in Fairfield became Tomlinson Junior High School, named after Gideon Tomlinson, one of the most prominent residents of Fairfield, He served as a member of Congress, Governor of Connecticut, and a U.S. Senator.
With the beginning of the school year in 1984, the sixth grades from several of the surrounding schools were added to the school and it became known as Tomlinson Middle School.

 Origin
Gideon Tomlinson was born in 1780 in Stratford and received his early education there.
The land upon which Tomlinson stands was donated to the town by Miss Annie Burr Jennings, whose house stood on the site.
The house was replaced in 1925 by the main section of the building, which became Fairfield High School.

 Second Company Governor's Foot Guard, Chapter 5.
That the Second Company, Governor's Foot Guard make an excursion to Greenfield Hill performing camp duty during their absence from the city.
Greenfield Hill, outside of Bridgeport, was chosen, as this was the home of Governor Gideon Tomlinson.
The Guard (68 in number) had secured the loan of tents from the officials of the Methodist Church -- probably used in revival camp meetings -- and on August 3rd left New Haven by boat.

Roger S. Baldwin and John Quincy Adams represented the crew of the Amistad in the Supreme Court of the U.S. Tomlinson, Jabez Huntington.
Jabez was the only child of Gideon Tomlinson, then a member of the U. Senate from Connecticut.

I have a document for an appointment for Lt. Herbert Williams, 3rd Co. 5th Reg.
Infantry Militia of CT. signed by Gideon Tomlinson, later Gov of CT. The date of the document is 1827.
Also I have a document signed by then President Andrew Johnson dated 1866 appointing the same gentleman as Surveyor for the Port of Michgan City, District of Chicago, State of Illinois.
