Gidim - Monstropedia - the largest encyclopedia about monsters
Gidim are the Sumerian equivalent of ghosts; they were the spirits of dead people living in the Underworld.
A gidim could be powerful, depending on personal valor and accomplishments of the deceased while alive and also on the number of sons he had.
Once the deceased had been properly buried, the gidim descended o the Netherworld where it stayed unless not properly fed or remembered by the living, in which case, if it was powerful enough, it returned to the Great Above to haunt those who had been negligent.

 Gidim
Gidim: The gidim (akkadian etemmu) is, first of all, the spirit of a dead person, living in the underworld, who must be propitiated and revered.
The gidim is also, then, the ghost who returns from the underworld to persecute the living.
Especially those who had died violent deaths were likely to be unsettled in the underworld and to return to 'seize' living persons.

Gidim: In ancient Sumer there was a fear of ghosts, but this was not the child like fear that we have come to associate with the fear of ghosts.
The Gidim were said to make their homes in the ruins of cities that were ancient even in those times.
When a Gidim, by choice or not, walks in the world of the living, they have some ability to force their will upon the living.

The Gidim are those who had died violent deaths and were likely to be unsettled in the underworld and to return to enter into the bodies of the living persons.
It was also feared that if a person made the journey to the other world and turned back they could make a bargain with the Gidim and return into their bodies and predict the future.

Gidim (etemmu in Akkadian) were the spirits of dead people living in the Netherworld, the Sumerian equivalent of today’s ghosts.
The deceased human mortal consisted of two parts: the adda (esemtu in Akkadian) and the gidim (etemmu in Akkadian).
In Sumer, the body (adda) was often buried under the floor of the family home at which time the gidim separated and went down into the Netherworld.

But besides his shortcomings, Gidim does not wish to hurt anything and only wishes to do things to pass the time till he dies.

INSITES OF THE DAY - Chulin, Daf 91
According to the Tana Kama, who maintains that the Gidim of both the right and the left legs are forbidden, it would have sufficed to discuss a case in which a person ate two Gidim from *one* animal.
The reason why the Beraisa discusses two Gidim from two animals is to teach that Rebbi Yehudah maintains that Malkus is administered.
The Gemara implies that this question is a question only because we concluded that it is obvious to Rebbi Yehudah that the Isur applies only to the Gid of the right leg.
