GIG Bandwidth Expansion   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
GIG-BE will create a ubiquitous "bandwidth-available" environment to improve national security intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and command and control information-sharing.
To implement GIG-BE, DISA is aggressively enhancing its current end-to-end information transport system, the Defense Information System Network (DISN), by significantly expanding bandwidth and physical diversity to selected locations worldwide.
Specifically, GIG-BE will connect key intelligence, command, and operational locations with high bandwidth capability over physically diverse routes, and the vast majority of these locations will be connected by a state-of-the-art optical mesh network design.

Epinions.com - Protect Your Guitar--Gig Bag Or Hardshell Case?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The gig bag is a relative newcomer--when I first started playing guitar 40 years ago, the only thing out there to store your guitar in was the hardshell case, and most of those weren't very good (more about that in a moment).
These more expensive gig bags usually have handles which are sewn into the bag, and they seem to me to be more "form fitting" for the guitar.
Gig bags can be purchased for acoustic guitars, electric guitars, electric basses and yes, even upright basses.

Voice Literary Supplement: The Book of Jobs
n the introduction to Gig: Americans Talk About Their Jobs at the Turn of the Century, the editors explain that they modeled their collection of workers' oral histories (which began as a series on the Web site Word.com) on Studs Terkel's 1972 classic, Working.
Judging from the scores of workers who weigh in with eloquence, anger, and passion in these pages, American workers are greatly troubled by the new work zeitgeist, and have given it a lot more serious thought than the average media pundit glibly recounting the glories of the stock-market-fueled economic "boom."
The employees in Gig, by contrast, often come across as stinging and disgusted observers of their own condition; if they are cynical, it is a cynicism that seems born of the desire to take a stand in a time when no obvious political mechanism exists to mount a meaningful challenge.

 Salon.com books | "Gig"
"Gig" grew out of a weekly column in Word, called "Work," that was modeled on the interviews that formed Studs Terkel's 1974 "Working." Bowe tells us that some interview subjects were referred by readers of Word who thought they had friends or acquaintances with interesting jobs.
Still, the editors of "Gig" are on to something: The national mood does seem to be turning back toward a validation of work.
Yet one of the inspiring aspects of "Gig" is how little most people talk about money as a component of their jobs.

So about another 13 gig there, give or take (the small partitions are specifically used for system files, so even though I do not have that much in actual files, I am not going to write anything other than system files and applications to the small drives).

"Gig," on the other hand, has remained in fairly constant use since it first appeared in its slang sense among jazz musicians in the mid-1920's.
Most dictionaries say that the origin of "gig" in this sense is unknown, but it really doesn't seem that great a mystery.
Appearing in English in the 15th century, "gig" meant something that spins, as in "whirligig." Subsequent meanings included "joke," "merriment" and (aha!) "dance." Since playing at parties and dances is every musician's meal ticket early in their career, it's easy to see how "gig" became generalized to mean any paying job.
