Gijs Van Lennep, born March 16, 1942, was a Dutch journeyman racecar driver who gave a good account for himself in his four F1 drives.
The following year Van Lennep won the F5000 Championship in a Surtees and drove twice for the Williams GP team winning his only championship point with 6th place in the Austrian Grand Prix.
In 1973 he won the Targa Florio, with Herbert Müller, in a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR.

In between Van Lennep had an on-and-off Grand Prix career, never getting to drive more than 3 GPs a year, mixing his F1 drives with sportscars and F5000, while his intended full-time drive with Surtees fell through at the last moment.

Still Müller remains faithful to his sport and in 1973 he won his second Targa Florio, when he and Gijs van Lennep drove their Porsche Carrera RSR to victory of the last ever Sicilian classic, before the event was changed into a rally of minor importance.

That's me with John Wyer's Gulf Mirage powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV at the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen where I co-drove with the Dutchman, Gijs van Lennep.
Whatever the cause, both Gijs and I experienced some fade.

I could find amazingly little information about this Taiyo Porsche.
It was built in the 1970's in Japan and is a replica of Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko's 1971 Le Mans winning 917K.
The record set by the gentlemen still stands as the all-time distance record at La Sarthe's race track.
