Darkness Beneath the `Domim Tree' / A child's view of the Holocaust
Based on an autobiographical book by Israeli actress Gila Almagor, it's a follow-up to the 1988 film ``The Summer of Aviya.'' Episodic and soapy, ``Domim'' may have some appeal for children and teens with an interest in Jewish diaspora and the Holocaust.
In an eerie bit of casting, Almagor, who co-wrote the screenplay, Gila Almagor (left) plays the mother of Aviya (Kaipo Cohen) in `Under the Domim Tree,' based on Almagor's book plays Aviya's (i.e., her own) deranged mother.
Cohen and Almagor obviously invested ``Under the Domim Tree'' with a lot of love, remembered pain and respect for the young actors who bring Almagor's adolescence to life.
