  Gilbert Parker Summary
Four years later appeared Parker's version of the adventures of the Scotsman who had been imprisoned by the French at Quebec during the Seven Years' War; the tale was enhanced with predictable embellishments such as a pure-hearted heroine, a demented prophetess, and a scintillating villain.
Parker's own contribution toward closer ties between the mother country and the colonies included organizing the first Colonial Universities Conference in 1903, serving as chairman of the South African Association in 1904, and accompanying Wilfrid Laurier to the inaugural ceremonies when Saskatchewan and Alberta joined Confederation in 1905.
Parker had three that made it into the top 10 on the annual list of bestselling novels in the United States two of which were on it for two years in a row.
