Gildor couldn't decide if he preferred the elf when sunlight was glinting off his hair and gilding his fair skin, or the way shadow allowed his high cheekbones to stand out and lent a mysterious air to his graceful movements.
Gildor, as the least experienced of the group, had not been privy to details of their instructions; all he knew was that they sought something in Thranduil's realm and had been sent to Lorien first to seek the advice of those who had long kept an eye on darkest Mirkwood.
Gildor was wondering where he could put his pastry or drink that would not stain her wares, needing to free a hand to return her offering, when he glanced into the mirror she had now shoved within a foot of his face.

Gildor felt the presence of the small group of hobbits before he saw them, but intended to merely travel on with his party, leaving them to their business, until he noticed the last in line.
Gildor found this somewhat unnerving--he was not accustomed to being an object of fascination--but chose to ignore it.
Gildor wished that he could accompany him on the way, but he and his companions were already charged with an important mission by Imladris' master, and could not wait.

Gildor was true to his word, for both Tom Bombadil and Aragorn heard of Frodo's peril from Gildor.
Gildor had told Frodo they were tarrying in Middle-earth before heading to the Grey Havens to pass over the Sea to the Undying Lands.
In October of 3018, word came to Rivendell from Gildor Inglorion that Frodo Baggins was heading for Rivendell pursued by the Nazgul led by the Witch-king.

Encyclopedia of Arda: Inglorion   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Inglorion is a patronymic, and means 'son of Inglor'.
This interpretation means that Gildor was potentially a very important Elf indeed, because at the time these words were written, Inglor was the name of the Elf-lord called 'Finrod' in The Silmarillion, and the name Finrod belonged to his father (known in The Silmarillion as 'Finarfin').
This suggests that Gildor was of very noble descent, and was in fact the son of the founder of Nargothrond.

Gildor Inglorion   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Gildor Inglorion is a fictional character from J.
Gildor calls himself "Gildor Inglorion of the House of Finrod." He also says: "We are Exiles, and most of our kindred have long departed and we too are only tarrying here a while, ere we return over the Great Sea.".
Some argue that the name "Inglorion", which means "son of Inglor" suggests, that he was in fact the son of Finrod Felagund himself, who was at that time still called Inglor.

When Gildor felt his legs naked in the cold night air, he gasped, partly because of the breeze and partly because of the realisation that this was really happening.
Gildor shifted slightly, and now their erections were pressed together, for their full length and the hands stroking them, Frodo’s right and Gildor’s left, could interlock their fingers and pleasure in tandem.

Gildor tried not to get involved with the Hobbits but upon hearing of the Black Riders grew concerned and offered them a safe place to stay for the night with the Elves in the woods above Woodhall.
It's not until much later we find out from Tom Bombadil that he had received a message from Gildor to be on the lookout for the Hobbits, and later Glorfindel says word reached Rivendell from Gildor that the Hobbits were in danger and that is why he had been sent to look for them.

Gildor is a very puzzling character because he appears to be nothing more than a deus ex machina.
Supposedly, Gildor and his companions are returning from a special pilgrimage they have made to Lindon (or, rather, to the three Elf-towers which stand between the Shire and Lindon).
Gildor and his folk were on friendly terms with Aragorn and the Rangers, and Tom Bombadil, and they seem to have kept some sort of watch over Bilbo and Frodo.

 Re: Gildor Inglorion
I sometimes wonder if Gildor isn't the son of Bombadil and Goldberry, since they are all so enigmatic.
Gildor would have had to go to Middle-earth in the Second Age, but could have done so when Glorfindel returned to help Gil-galad against Sauron.
These interpretations stretch matters, for though Gildor could not have supplanted Gil-galad if he was indeed a paternal grandson of Finrod, one must ask why he would not be considered for the High Kingship after Gil-galad's death (or why Tolkien should say no more heirs to the High Kings lived in Middle-earth).

Gildor Inglorion, Glorfindel, Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Luthien Tinuviel, and Finrod Felagund all share something in common: they are members of that vaguely defined group of Elves whom J.R.R. Tolkien called "the Wise".
And Gildor Inglorion and his folk pass through the Shire frequently, so they are quite comfortable with Hobbits.
Gildor Inglorion would be one of the Wise because he was the leader of a company of Elves.

The One Ring: The White Council :: View topic - Gildor, descendant of Finrod Felagund?
When Gildor was first named Gildor Inglorion of the house of Finrod, this would put him as Felagund's son, and the of the house of Finarfin (Finrod at that time) his grandfather.
Anyhow someone at another thread said that they think that Gildor would not be the son of Finrod Felagund because it is highly unlikely that he (Gildor) having been born in Valinor would go to Middle-earth.
Thus Inglorion could conceivably mean "of the people of Finarfin", though Tolkien wouldn't have intended that at the time.

Gildor Inglorion was a Noldorin Elf of the House of Finrod.
If we read "House of Finrod" to mean "House of Finarfin", we can place him among the Noldor who joined the host of Finarfin during the Exile, and came to Beleriand under Finrod Felagund.
Furthermore, if he were Finrod's son, he would have right to claim High Kingship of the Noldor instead of Gil-galad after Turgon's death.

The ubiquitous Gildor Inglorion, sadly, is nowhere mentioned in the section dealing with Finwë's descendants.
I'm not sure of whether Tolkien decided the House of Finrod was to be something else, or if perhaps Gildor came over to Middle-earth in the Second Age with Glorfindel.
Inglorion could be related to Ingalaurë, which appears to be an earlier name for Finarfin, later called Ingoldo before Finrod took on that name.
