In the county, the population is spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 27.90% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $34,824, and the median income for a family is $41,714.

Giles County was created in 1810 In pursuance of an act of the General Assembly passed November 14, 1809, and at the suggestion of Gen. Jackson was Denied in honor of Gen. William B. Giles, one of the governors of Virginia.
Giles County was formed out of Maury County and is bounded as follows: North by the counties of Maury and Marshall, east by the counties of Marshall and Lincoln, south by the State of Alabama, west by Lawrence County, and has an area of 600 square miles.
Giles County took a decided stand in favor of secession at the breaking out of the late war, and cast an overwhelming majority vote in favor of separation from the Union and representation in the Confederate Congress.

A treaty was made with the Chickasaw Indians in July, 1805, by which they ceded their claim to all lands north of Duck River, and east of the Nachez road as far as the ridge that divides the waters of Elk from those of Buffalo.
The Memphis & Knoxville Railroad has been surveyed through the county, and should the road be built the county would be quartered by railways, and Giles would have transportation facilities equaled by few counties in the State.
Within a short time after the organization of the county the county militia was established as an adjunct to the State militia, and for twenty years or more was in active organization.

The land of Giles was part of the hunting grounds for both the Chickasaw and Cherokees, remaining free of whites until 1783, the year the North Carolina legislature passed the "Land Grab" Act.
Unlike North Carolina, the new federal government was intent upon treating with the Indians, and land in present-day Giles County was included in the Hopewell Treaties of 1785 and 1786 (Cherokee and Chickasaw respectively).
In 1799 Williamson County was created from Davidson and references to land now in Giles are also found in land warrants as early as 1803, although those records located to-date were all east of the Elk River.
