Pulaski was designated the county seat and a courthouse erected on a square in the center of the county in 1811.
Giles County was the birthplace of noted African American architect Moses McKissack, founder of McKissack and McKissack, one of the oldest African American architectural firms in the nation.
Giles County is also the birthplace of two nationally known writers, Donald Davidson and John Crowe Ransom.

Giles County was created in 1810 in pursuance of an act of the General Assembly passed November 14, 1809, and at the suggestion of Gen. Jackson was named in honor of Gen. William B. Giles, one of the governors of Virginia.
Giles County was formed out of Maury County and is bounded as follows: North by the counties of Maury and Marshall, east by the counties of Marshall and Lincoln, south by the State of Alabama, west by Lawrence County, and has an area of 600 square miles.
The county seat and principal town of Giles County is Pulaski, which stands on the east bank of Richland Creek, and on the Nashville and Decatur Railroad, seventy-five miles south of Nashville and eighteen miles north of the Alabama State line.

Captain Henry says the first marriage in the County that he remembers was Jesse Beaver to Miss Harben, in a little cabin with a dirt floor in the cane-brake, near where Mt. Moriah church now stands.
The county was established in November 1809 and the act establishing the county appointed Nathaniel Moody one of the Commissioners to locate and lay off the County Seat, to be called Pulaski; he was also appointed one of the first magistrates of the County.
