The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports was one of the earliest (A program broadcast by television) television programs ever broadcasted.
Its earlier incarnation, called Cavalcade of Sports, ran on local television in the mid- (The decade from 1940 to 1949) 1940s, and first made it to NBC national broadcasting in 1946.
Despite the implication that several sports were covered, in fact (Fighting with the fists) boxing was the only sport that was shown.

The "prelims" started at 7:30, and for the most part, these bouts were attended by large neighborhood contingents, rooting for a local fighter from one of the five boroughs of the city who had "come up through the Gloves" and the local fight clubs and had finally "made it" to the Garden.
It may have been the proximity to the action, but I think the real reason that the absolute, brutal savagery of this bout has stayed with me over the years, is simply the fact that it was just non-stop, unrelenting fighting by two of the toughest fighters I have ever seen in the ring.

NBC was the first network to carry televised boxing, Cavalcade of Sports began on local TV in the mid-1940s and added network coverage in 1946, with Bob Stanton at the TV mike from St. Nicholas Arena in Manhattan on Mondays and from Madison Square Garden on Fridays.
The Friday telecasts, which became the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports in 1948, ran for 14 years, by far the longest continuous run of any televised boxing show.
Don Dunphy, released from NBC radio with the cancellation of the Cavalcade of Sports show on Fridays, took over the television commentary in the fall of 1960 and remained with it until faded in September of 1964, the last regular nighttime network boxing series on the air.
