	The Gilpin Gold Tram, a narrow gauge tramway (or railroad) serving Central City and Black Hawk Colorado
		The story of the Gilpin County and the Gold Tram starts in April of 1859 when John H Gregory started up Clear Creek from Golden searching for gold.
		The primary purpose of this site is to document through photos, history and documents the Gilpin Tramway and the mines, mills, towns and other railroads that serviced the rich mining veins of Gilpin County Colorado.
		The Gilpin Tramway Company was a two-foot gauge railroad around Black Hawk and Central City Colorado serving the mines and mills of one of the richest gold strikes in US history.

		They authorized a ballot measure, to be voted upon in November, to authorize a one-mill tax increase to fund the purchase of open space here in Gilpin County.
		Last year the assessed valuation of all property in the County was about $300 million, so a one-mill levy will generate about $300 thousand.
		On the other hand, a lot of people, knowing about property values for some of these “crown jewels” as they have been identified over the years by the Open Space subcommittee of the Planning Commission, will think that $300 thousand a year isn’t nearly enough to accomplish what is needed.
