Standouts include Jane Wiedlin's "Girl of 100 Lists," with its ringing guitar and Charlotte Caffey's fuzzed-out keyboards; the punchy "Get Up and Go"; with some wicked Gina Schock drums; and "This Old Feeling," a rolling, cheerful song complete with a sax solo and singalong "do do-do" backup vocals.

The Go-Go's: Charlotte Caffey (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Jane Weidlin (vocals, guitar); Belinda Carlisle (vocals); Kathy Valentine (guitar, bass); Gina Schock (drums, percussion).
All three feature Gina Schock's powerful drumming way up into the front of the mix, Belinda Carlisle impassioned (and slightly unschooled) vocals, and brief allusions to surf-guitar rock.
As good as those tracks are, "Skidmarks on My Heart," an awesome nitro-injected, adrenalized pastiche of '60s girl-group standards, and "This Town," a scathing character study of L.A. life, are possibly better.

Moving from drums to vocals, the former Baltimorean (who had played with local eccentric and John Waters star Edith "Edie the Egg Lady" Massey's performance art punk group Edie and the Eggs before moving to L.A.) hooked up with bassist Vance DeGeneres, a New Orleans native formerly of the local new wave institution the Cold.
The duo gave their new project the rather unfortunate name House of Schock and drafted guitarist Chrissy Shefts and drummer Steven Fisher to record their sole album, 1988's House of Schock.
Although Capitol Records signed the new group, the album was given next to no promotion, and despite the presence of the fine could-be hit "Middle of Nowhere," the album sank without a trace almost immediately, so Schock and DeGeneres went their separate ways.
