  Giorgio Borg Olivier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Giorgio Borg Olivier (5 July 1911 - 29 October 1980) was three times Prime Minister of Malta (1950 to 1955 and 1962 to 1971) as the Leader of the Nationalist Party.
On the 14th June, 1968, Dr Borg Olivier was decorated with the Grand Cross of Merit of the Order of Malta by the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitallier Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta.
Borg Olivier's relative is the actor Philip Olivier, who appeared in the soap Brookside.

The island was made self-governing in 1947, and in 1955 Dom Mintoff, leader of the Malta Labour Party (MLP), became prime minister.
In 1956 the MLP's proposal for integration with the UK was approved by a referendum but opposed by the conservative Nationalist Party (PN), led by Dr Giorgio Borg Olivier.
By 1961 both parties favoured independence, and talks began 1962, when the PN and Borg Olivier won the general election.

This was the largest achievement of the PN and a personal victory for Dr Borg Olivier.

Giulio Andreotti, 83, seven times Italian premier, has been invited to Malta by AZAD to deliver the first of a series of yearly lectures in honour of former Prime Minister Giorgio Borg Olivier on 3 November at the Auberge D’Aragon.
Andreotti, a senator for life, faces a 24 year jail sentence in his home country, but will probably never spend a day in prison.
Asked why AZAD, the socio-political organisation linked to the Nationalist Party, invited Andreotti, chairman Ranier Fsadni said: "The Fondazzjoni Giorgio Borg Olivier was created to provide a living monument to the former Prime Minister and we have invited Andreotti to speak about Borg Olivier and how Malta was perceived during his time in office.

In the September 1950 elections the Nationalists won twelve assembly seats, and Mizzi formed a minority government with the support of the Workers’ party, which had been organized after the Labour party split.
On his death, Mizzi was succeeded by Giorgio Borg-Olivier.
Although the Workers’ party lost votes in the 1951 and 1953 elections (and finally disappeared), minority Nationalist governments held sway until 1955, when Labour, under Dom Mintoff, won 57 percent of the votes and twenty-three assembly seats and formed a cabinet.

 Ciantar Paleologo
Count Gio Antonio Ciantar was styled Count by Queen Maria of Portugal in 1739 and by King Louis XV of France in 1745,1747 and 1761.
Their son Giorgio Serafino Ciantar-Paleologo, succeeded as the 3rd Count Ciantar-Paleologo, and was created the title of Baron di San Giovanni by King Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies on 1777.
The Ciantar-Paleologos family continued in succession until Guiseppe, the 6th Count dying in the late 19th Century, his successor was his sister’s son Dr Giovanni Chapelle-Paleologo LL.D, as the 7th Count.
