Giorgio Gomelsky - Biography - AOL Music
Giorgio Gomelsky is one of the secret heroes of British rock, and indeed one of the more important non-musicians in rock history.
In early 1963, Gomelsky was an important figure in the just-emerging British R&B scene as the operator of the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond, on the outskirts of London.
Gomelsky moved to New York City in the mid-'70s, where he was involved with a label, Utopia, that would have had the same alternative- and innovative-minded focus as Marmalade did.

It was partly as a result of a short film Gomelsky planned of the band performing (never completed) that the Stones began to receive their first media attention.
Gomelsky seemed to be among the few figures in the industry with a realization that history was in the making, and that the music should be documented.Gomelsky was a sort of Renaissance man of stirring things up in the British music scene, in various capacities.

In February, when Giorgio Gomelsky decided to throw himself a 65th birthday party, he held it at the Green Door, the underground rock club on W. 24th St. If that seems a funny venue for a man his age, at least he didn’t have far to go to toddle off to bed.
Gomelsky is an international man. He was born in then-Soviet Georgia as his father, a surgeon and medical researcher, was fleeing Stalin’s mad crackdown on the professional classes.
Giorgio had first seen Soft Machine "I think in 1967, down in a cellar in Tottenham Court Road, the UFO Club, which was run by an exiled American, Joe Boyd," now head of Hannibal Records.
