He also attended the drawing and sculpture classes of GB Cipriani and Joseph Wilton at the Duke of Richmond's sculpture gallery.
Like many other artists of the day, he studied antiquities, and made numerous plaster casts and marble copies of classic works — many of these later formed the collection of Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond at Richmond House in west London.

Cipriani trained in Florence under the direction of the Anglo-Florentine artist Ignazio Enrico Hugford; in his early works he was also influenced by the Baroque style of Anton Domenico Gabbiani.
His first commissions, for the organ screen in S Maddalena dei Pazzi, Florence, and for two altarpieces in Pistoia (both now in S Bartolomeo), are undistinguished and tentative works that still show traces of the Baroque style.
In 1750 he went to Rome, where he came into contact with English artists on the Grand Tour.

One of the later additions to the library is the South-end window dating from 1771.
Designed by Giovanni Battista Cipriani, it was executed by Peckitt of York who used both stained and enamelled glass in its construction.
The window shows an allegorical scene of Newton being presented by the Muse of the College to King George III with Bacon looking on.

Richard Earlom (London, 1743 - 1822): One of the greatest eighteenth century mezzotint and stipple engravers, Richard Earlom was apprenticed to the London based engraver, Cipriani, in his youth.
He began work for John Boydell in 1774, taking five years to create the two hundred plates which comprise the Liber Veritas set.
