Piano Forums at Piano World: Giovanni Battista Pescetti
After its collapse Pescetti remained in London, contributing operas or arias in pasticcios; he also published (1739) a set of keyboard sonatas, which include arrangements of the overture and arias in his opera La conquista del velo d’oro.
Pescetti’s opera arias are notable for their easily singable lines, simple accompaniments, short, clearly articulated phrases and restricted harmonic vocabulary.
In April 1736 Pescetti appeared in London, and in the 1736–7 season he replaced Porpora as director of the Opera of the Nobility, thereby initiating a rivalry with Handel.

In bar 23, again there is a key change from G major, to the relative minor of the key that the piece is written in, which is A minor.
This is done cleverly as Pescetti uses the accidentals from the keys of both A minor and G major (F sharp and G sharp) this is done through two bars, until the F sharp in G major is naturalised making the new key A minor.
The piece only stays in A minor for a few bars and then alternates between keys by the use of lots of accidentals, until it reaches the second perfect cadence in the key of E major.
