Giovanni Battista Cipriani - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727–1785), Italian painter and engraver, Pistoiese by descent, was born in Florence.
It was natural that Cipriani should thus devote himself to adorning the apartments of the academy, since he was an original member (1768) of that body, for which he designed the diploma so well engraved by Bartolozzi.
Cipriani died at Hammersmith and was buried at Chelsea, where Bartolozzi erected a monument to his memory.

Giovanni Battista Cipriani - LoveToKnow 1911
GIOVANNI BATTISTA CIPRIANI (1727-1785), Italian painter and engraver, Pistoiese by descent, was born in Florence in 1727.
The apartments in Sir William Chambers's stately palace that were assigned to the Royal Academy, into which it moved in 1780, owed much to Cipriani's graceful, if mannered, pencil.
Cipriani died at Hammersmith in 1785 and was buried at Chelsea, where Bartolozzi erected a monument to his memory.

 ODAN
Cipriani was accused of having been complicit in a massacre of schoolteachers that took place during an anti-terrorism operation.
In 1999, Cipriani was promoted to be the archbishop of Lima, and there were rumors that he had collaborated in the assassination of his predecessor, Jesuit cardinal Augusto Vargas Alzamora, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Cipriani notified Sodano that the letter was false, including the signature, but at the secretariat of state they hesitated to believe him, and during the bishops´ synod in 2001, while he was in Rome, they subjected him to an embarrassing interrogation.

Giovanni Battista Recco [1615-1660] may have been Giuseppe's brother but was more likely his uncle.
The fish and kitchen still-lifes are typically Neapolitan, yet Giuseppe’s art is distinguished by the intensity with which he observes light and surface texture and by the clarity of the composition, based on a careful balance of horizontals and verticals.
Barret, who collaborated on this project with Sawrey Gilpin, Giovanni Battista Cipriani and the architect-designer Benedetto Pastorini (d 1839), produced a panoramic view of the Lake District, a work that was hailed as his masterpiece.

When John Hawkesworth engaged artists to design and engrave the illustrations for his account of Cook’s voyage, he chose Giovanni Battista Cipriani and Francesco Bartolozzi.
Cipriani and his friend Bartolozzi, both originally from Florence, came to England in 1755 and became founding members of the Royal Academy when it was established in 1768.
Inheritors of a long-standing academic tradition that made few concessions to the need for scientifically accurate records of expeditions, Cipriani’s Rococo Classicism was used to ‘improve’ the drawings of Parkinson et al in much the same way that Hawkesworth ‘improved’ Cook’s journal.

In time the second plate also wore out and was replaced by a rather ugly line-cut, a sad decline from Hurd's original and not worthy of reproduction here.
In 1935 this in turn was fittingly replaced by a photogravure plate copied from an eighteenth-century portrait of Thomas Hollis V, derived ultimately from a drawing from the life by Hollis's protégé, Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727-1785).
This plate is still used to mark current purchases on the Hollis Fund.
