Girl, Interrupted is yet another one of those female bonding film.
But Girl, Interrupted does not perpetuate this long lasting myth of Vietnam and Woodstock being the only important things about the late sixties, instead the film comes of as a aetemporal film.
Unlike Susanna Keyson and Girl, Interrupted, Carter's story is one that should be shared with the world.

A film about a girl that thinks she is crazy because she tried to kill her self so she decided to enter herself in to a mental home.
Girl, Interrupted is based on the book and real life experiences of Susanna Kaysen in late 1960’s America.
As you've probably guessed from my name (Interrupted) I am a huge fan of this film and the book, although if I had to choose, the film would be my favourite.

 Girl Interrupted
Review: Winona Ryder's latest film, Girl Interrupted, is set in Boston and focuses on the character Susanna's stay at a mental hospital.
Girl, Interrupted is a very good drama with many good laughs, but somewhat disturbing with several messages, mainly that society seemed to shun the lesbian, but accepted the incest.
Other characters stored at the mental institute in the film are Daisy who is portrayed by Brittany Murphy in a sad and disturbing side plot, the girl who lit herself on fire, a lesbian (because that was very hush hush in the 60s), and Georgina the compulsive liar.

Girl, Interrupted Movie Review by Anthony Leong
During her two-year stay at Claymoore, Susanna kept a journal that was eventually published as the best-selling book "Girl, Interrupted" in 1993, which has been described as a witty and poignant memoir that asks what it really means to be 'mentally ill'.
The biggest problem with "Girl, Interrupted" is that it is more of a travelogue, which takes the audience on an excursion into a mental institution, pointing out some of the sights along the way.
And now the bad news-- despite the presence of two engaging lead actresses, "Girl, Interrupted" is a chore (and often a bore) to watch.

Unlike One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which focused very strongly on patients rights, Girl, Interrupted gets stuck in the same crisis as its protagonist (Suzanne, played by Winona Ryder): it is unable to decide what to do with itself.
As a result of its ability to not meddle in patients rights or politics, Girl, Interrupted ends up being beyond the highly bearable that it could have ended up as.

 Girl Interrupted
Although Girl Interrupted does tend to wrap things up a little too neatly at the end, and although it does contrive to work in every "female bonding" cliché in the book - including the old girly sing-along - it still manages to be an interesting and powerful film.
Girl Interrupted has been described as "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest with chicks", which is actually a pretty neat summary.
James Mangold's film effectively re-captured the sense of friendship and camaraderie that exists between the patients, the trivialities of their lives, the nuances and eccentricities of each character, and how they all rally round to help each other in times of need.

 Girl, Interrupted Comprehensive Movie Review
Girl, Interrupted is a film based on the book by Susanna Kaysen, Set in a famous 'Mental' hospital of the '60's where "The Bell Jar's" author Sylvia Plath also resided and documented that stay.
The film has so many top notch scenes, when the girls sing 'Downtown'to Polly is very emotional, the ice-cream parlour scene is hilarious and the scene where the girls steal susanna's diary and chase her is frightening.
She rebels against the nurses (main= Goldberg) and the psychiatrists (main= Redgrave)and becomes 'one of the girls', she becomes especially close and fond of Lisa (Jolie) an alluring and intense sociopath. There are many exiting and shocking scenes (as you can imagine from the basic structure) but i won't wreck it for you!

Girl, Interrupted is a bit more mainstream and straightforward than we've come to expect of films scored by Mychael Danna.
1999 had brought about quite a variety of scoring assignments for Mychael Danna, with 8MM, Ride With the Devil, Felicia's Journey, and finally Girl, Interrupted.
Though the editing of the film's first twenty minutes or so is on the more surreal side, it thereafter sets in to a linear narrative and becomes a rather "pop"-ish film with some great acting.

Girl, Interrupted is a memoir by Susanna Kaysen.
The "plot" of Girl, Interrupted does not follow a linear story line, but instead the author provides personal stories through a series of nonchronological vignettes and personal reflections on why she was institutionalized.

Girl, Interrupted (1999): Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Whoopi Goldberg, Clea Duvall - PopMatters Film Review
In all cases, the fundamental notion is this: the girl is in trouble because she's a girl.
But even these troubling stories of girls in trouble can be turned back round to make the girl look happy to conform, or dead, in the case of Sylvia Plath, if she doesn't.
Which, in turn, means that the lesson to be learned, that this initial decision is wrong, that the undomesticated, rule-breaking girl is emphatically NOT the correct role model, is too easily delivered, that is, with a contrived scene that suddenly displays her cruelty and sociopathology.

 washingtonpost.com: Entertainment Guide
"Girl, Interrupted," the sensitive, well-acted film based on Susanna Kaysen's 1993 memoir about her youthful sojourn in a mental asylum in the late '60s, paints the psychiatric ward as, in some respects, more like the average college dormitory than the hellhole depicted in Fred Wiseman's notorious 1967 documentary about a Massachusetts sanatorium.
"Girl, Interrupted" is set in a psychiatric hospital, but the therapeutic relationships (with compassionate if occasionally clueless staff doctors played by Jeffrey Tambor and Vanessa Redgrave) are not the relationships that get the spotlight.
Not to be flip, but Claymoore, the exclusive Massachusetts hospital in which most of the action of "Girl, Interrupted" is set, is not the drooling bedlam portrayed in fictional features like "The Snake Pit" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," either.

Brittany Murphy is very creepy as a girl who is slowly recovering from her illness, and she provides what is without a doubt the films most chilling moments.

Mangold unwisely retains the episodic nature of the book and consequently Girl, Interrupted lacks fluency and pace.
The girls play music to one another, enjoy games of midnight ten-pin bowling and break into the office of Dr Wick (Vanessa Redgrave) to sneak a peak at their psychiatric evaluations.
James Mangold's star-laden adaptation only seems concerned with the former, reshaping Kaysen's wry account of her voluntary two-year residency at Claymoore psychiatric hospital during the 1960s into a long-winded One Flew Over The Cuckoo Chick's Nest.

Based on a book by the real Susanna Kaysen, Girl, Interrupted is directed by James Mangold (Cop Land), who adapted the script with debut screenwriters Lisa Loomer and Anna Hamilton Phelan.
After taking a tour of the facility with Nurse Valerie (Whoopi Goldberg, How Stella Got Her Groove Back), Susanna begins to unpack but is sidetracked by the arrival of recent escapee Lisa (Angelina Jolie, The Bone Collector), a willowy, whacked-out, alpha-female sociopath that manipulates the other girls in Claymoore.
Some of Mangold’s flashbacks early in the film were done pretty well, but, like I said, they stopped pretty quickly.

 Articles on the Film "Karla"
The $5 million film was directed by Joel Bender and stars Laura Prepon (That '70s Show) as Homolka and Misha Collins (24, Girl Interrupted) as Bernardo.
The film strives for a dissonance between its portrayal of Homolka-as-victim during the period that Bernardo was on his killing and raping spree, and the psychiatric evaluation many years later, during which Homolka is a calm and controlled woman spinning her self-justifying and self-delusional version of the murderous events that led to her incarceration.
Film producer Michael Sellers said this week he has always intended to donate some of the proceeds of the film to charity and he was further prompted by a McMaster university student and her friend who wrote to him.

The St. Petersburg Times - Arts + Features - 'identity': film shall not live by one plot twist alone
"Identity," a piece of elegant directorial hackwork by James Mangold ("Girl, Interrupted," "Kate and Leopold"), goes through its generic paces with enough flair and mystery to keep you moderately entertained.
Like last year's "Panic Room," the springtime box-office success of which Sony may be hoping to repeat, "Identity" is a dressed-up B picture, a hunk of cheese trying to sneak into the gourmet-food aisle of the supermarket.
The apparent premise, creaky though it may be, holds ample opportunity for suspense and second-guessing, and Mangold handles the revelations and reversals of Michael Cooney's script with nerve-racking aplomb.

Director James Mangold’s previous films include CopLand, Girl Interrupted and Kate & Leopold, so to say that Identity is his best film so far isn’t really saying all that much.
