Gislebert of Mons' comments suggest that after surviving this crisis, Isabelle began to place her own welfare and her duty as queen above her obligations to forward the success of her family.
Gislebert of Mons implies that Philip and Isabelle faced Baldwin together, persuading him to ally himself definitively with Philip.
Gislebert's word "honesta" in medieval Latin can mean "wealthy," and thus could refer to her rich dower, but "straightforward" seems more appropriate here, especially as "honesta" carries a connotation of the graceful manners which Isabelle was later to display.

The genealogy of Mons, Louvain, Hainault, Limburg, and Brabant is drawn from the Erzählende genealogische Stammtafeln zur europäischen Geschichte, Volume II Part 1, Europäische Kaiser-, Königs, und Fürstenhäuser I Westeuropa [Andreas Thiele, Third Edition, R. The real founder, Rainier (Reginar) I of Mons (Maasgau), was a Duke of Lorraine and the father of Duke Giselbert of Lorraine.
Rainier I's grandfather was the Emperor Lothar I, through his mother, who is either unidentified or given as Irmengard (Ermengarde), which may or may not be a confusion with her mother, Irmengard of Tours, or grandmother (Lother's wife), Irmengard of Hesbain.

As for Arnulph of Montgomery, who first wonne it, and was afterwards outlawed, and his Castellan Girald, whom King Henry the First made afterward President over the whole Country, I dare scarcely affirme that they were Earles.
The first that was stiled Earle of Penbroke was Gilbert, surnamed Strongbow, sonne of Gislebert de Clare, in the time of King Stephen.
And he left it unto his sonne Richard Strongbow, the renowned Conqueror of Ireland, who, as Giraldus saith, was descended ex clara Clarensium familia, that is, out of the noble family of Clare or Clarence.
