Donizetti was born in the northern Italian city of Bergamo to an impoverished family.
Donizetti arrived at a time when Mayr was writing his greatest operas, and his impression on the younger composer was pronounced.
Donizetti's success in dealing with both comic and tragic settings was due in part to his own manic-depressive personality.

Guiseppe Donizetti was born in Bergamo on 6 November 1788, the elder brother of Gaetano Donizetti, the famous opera composer.
Donizetti composed the Mahmudiye March for Mahmud II, and after his death composed the Mecidiye March for his son Sultan Abdülmecid, who came to the throne in 1839 (in 1847) Franz Liszt composed a paraphrase based on the Mecidiye March and presented it to the sultan).
Donizetti Paşa may have been overshadowed by his brother’s reputation in Europe, but in Turkey he is the one who is best remembered, not so much for his compositions but his key role in introducing western music side by side with classical music.

Donizetti's unique understanding of harmony was successfully reflected in the music, and the synchronization between the orchestra and the stage was also impressive.
The selections from the letters of Donizetti and his publisher, Ricordi, provide the reader with an idea about the stage, the level of the art and the viewers in Italy during the 19th century.
The program booklet also mentions that Donizetti Pasha had sent his son Andrea to Paris in 1845 because of his brother Gaetano's illness and that he had brought the composer to his nephew's birthplace, Bergamo, before he breathed his last.

The reason why I mention these two specific composers is because, as we all know, with Rossini's absence from Italy compounded by a decline in his prolificacy, there was a gap and the emergence of Bellini and Donizetti has a lot to do with their ability to successfully compete with other contemporary composers.
To say that Donizetti and Bellini did not have strong competitors or that they were not watching one another while keeping a keen eye on what other composers were doing is not only naive but also myopic.
Giuseppe Persiani was born in 1799, and wrote his first opera in 1826.

Giuseppe Donizetti (1788-1856), who was later granted the title "Pasha," the highest of Ottoman honorifics, and is thus known to history as Donizetti Pasha, worked as a composer and music instructor to the Ottoman imperial household for more than thirty years.
Giuseppe was trained as a flutist in the Italian Napoleonic military band, where he also learned to write orchestral arrangements for military marches and waltzes.
However, Donizetti's most important collaboration was with Franz Liszt, who came to Istanbul in 1847 and wrote a piano interpretation of one of Donizetti Pasha's most important works, a Grand March dedicated to Sultan Abdulmejid, originally composed in 1839.

In 1843, Donizetti suffered from symptoms of cerebro-spinal syphilis and, after being institutionalized in 1845, he was sent back to Paris, where he could be cared for.

The Prussian army captain Helmuth von Moltke was hired as a military advisor; the military musicians were trained by Guiseppe Donizetti (the brother of famous Geatano Donizetti) and Henry Eckford was brought from New York to construct fine frigates in Istanbul dockyards.
Besides the great compositions in Turkish classical music, Giuseppe Donizetti conducted the palace orchestra in Istanbul, an Italian architect was commissioned to build a modern opera house and soon French plays began to be performed.
For the ordinary Ottoman subjects these changes were very confusing and difficult to adapt to, and these led to reactions that soon erupted in the aftermath of the reforms.
