Pitoni acquired such a marvellous facility, that for his compositions, which were of great musical value, he could write every part separately, without making a score.
Oeuvre of Pitoni: 278 masses: 133 for 4 voices, 1 for 5 voices "sinfonie", 104 for 8 voices, 2 for 9 voices (pro defunctis), 1 for 12 voices, 8 for 16 voices.
Pitoni was also a theoretician and a historian.

Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni, one of his successors at the Cappella Giulia and a famous teacher, had the scores of a series of Benevoli's compositions for two, three, four and six choirs restored for his pupils to study as models of the genre.
Some of these study scores were still extant in the twentieth century and were published from 1950 onwards by the Reverend Lorenzo Feininger.

The Italian Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni (1657-1743), was by the age of seventeen in charge of the choir at the Cathedral of Assisi.
In the course of his career, he was also director of St. John Lateran Church and choirmaster at St. Peter's Cathedral, where he stayed for twenty-four years.
