In 1972 Giuseppe Sinopoli was appointed Professor for Contemporary and Electronic Music at the Venice Conservatory and also commenced studies in conducting with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna.
Major successes in Giuseppe Sinopoli's conducting career were performances of Aida and Tosca in Venice in 1976 and 1977, and his debuts in 1980 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Verdi's Macbeth, and at the Vienna State Opera with Verdi's Attila.
Giuseppe Sinopoli has appeared with the Berlin, Vienna and New York Philharmonic Orchestras, the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome, London's Philharmonia Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden.

Sinopoli was rushed to the city's German Heart Center clinic after collapsing during the third act of Giuseppe Verdi's four-act "Aida." Doctors tried to resuscitate him at the scene in the Deutsche Oper opera house and then in the hospital, where he died later Friday.
Sinopoli was appointed chief conductor of London's Philharmonia Orchestra and Rome's St. Cecilia National Academy in 1983, and a year later took up the same post at Rome's Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sinopoli went to Berlin in 1990 to lead the orchestra at the Deutsche Oper, before moving to the eastern German city of Dresden two years later as musical director of its Staatskapelle orchestra.

Sinopoli has been the chief-conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin 1990-92, left there because of problems with the general manager Götz Friedrich who died a couple of month ago.
