Give Up and Give | Give Orange
Give Orange invites you to Give Up and Give.
The First Friday of Lent we are asking people to give up a trip to the movies and donate the money saved to the Genocide Intervention Network--an organization working to stop the genocide in Darfur.
Give Up and Give might be a way for some to practice their Lenten faith, a way to take time every Friday as some prepare for Passover, or simply a good exercise in consuming less and giving more while making our world better.

Give Up, the debut release by this indie supergroup composed of Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello from Dntel, is a smart, quaint, and often transcendent little pop record.
The remainder of Give Up is solid, though Gibbard's lyrics are less potent by the middle of the record, and Tamborello burrows perhaps a little too deeply into some of the thinner sounds of the cold '80s era that inspires him.
Give Up is the perfect combination of laid-back, relaxing, feel good music.

This over-emphasis in 'Give up Activism' on the theory of roles and on the subjective side of things has led some people to fail to recognise the original impetus behind the piece.
Although the piece is called 'Give up Activism', I did not want to suggest at all that people stop trashing GM crops, smashing up the City and disrupting the gatherings of the rich and powerful, or any of the other myriad acts of resistance that 'activists' engage in.
Although 'Give up Activism' neglected to recommend any actual change in behaviour outside of saying that we needed one, perhaps now it would be appropriate to say something about this.

Give it away, everyone tried to persuade me to give the child up for adoption...too many years together, too many memories, there was no way I would adopt.
When my amom came up that evening, in discussion with her, my oldest son wanted to stay with her, and the youngest was too young and frightened by his biofather, he was raised by his father.

The Postal Service: Give Up: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
First, the bad news: Give Up doesn't offer 45 solid minutes of the same wholesale excellence that appeared in condensed form on "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan"; if anything, the album's occasional missteps serve to elucidate what exactly made the first collaboration between Tamborello and Gibbard so effective.
Fortunately, Give Up overcomes its highly questionable lyrical choices, and the sometimes painful duets between Gibbard and indie folkster Jen Wood, purely on the strength of Gibbard's consistently strong melodies, which carry far greater impact in the context of Tamborello's hyperactive electro-pop than they have on recent Death Cab for Cutie releases.
While it may be impressive that the unified and cohesive vision of Give Up was the result of a par avion collaboration, it's anything but surprising given the talent behind it and the immense chemistry shared by these two musicians.

The division of labour is the foundation of class society, the fundamental division being that between mental and manual labour.
The division of labour operates, for example, in medicine or education - instead of healing and bringing up kids being common knowledge and tasks that everyone has a hand in, this knowledge becomes the specialised property of doctors and teachers - experts that we must rely on to do these things for us.
Similarly, the various networking forums that have recently sprung up around the country - the Rebel Alliance in Brighton, NASA in Nottingham, Riotous Assembly in Manchester, the London Underground etc. have a similar goal - to get all the activist groups in the area talking to each other.

TANGMONKEY.COM [ REVIEW: The Postal Service: Give Up ]
Their debut album, Give Up, makes them the latest to question the laws of common sense.
Give Up’s zenith is its fourth song, the "Hey Paula"-for-2003, "Nothing Better." The song has Gibbard’s character clumsily trying to win back his girl, lame marriage proposal and all, and when the beat drops and the faux-French-horns swell behind her as she pronounces, "I feel I must interject here," we can understand why he’s scrambling.
Give Up has an obvious formula: upbeat tempo, swaying/bubbling/accordion-mocking keyboards and Gibbard’s poetry-laced storytelling.

"Give Up" is an even partnership between the two genres.
While songs like "Nothing Better" and the single "Such Great Heights" are ultra-tender, one of the standout tracks on "Give Up" is the dark, brooding "This Place is a Prison." It features the sparsest instrumental work on the album, and its combination of live and mechanical drums creates an amazing synergy.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Gymnastics officials asked Paul Hamm to give up his gold medal as the ultimate show of sportsmanship, but the U.S. Olympic Committee told them to take responsibility for their own mistakes.
In a dispute over scores that has turned into a political squabble, the head of the International Gymnastics Federation suggested in a letter to Hamm that giving the all-around gold medal to South Korea's Yang Tae-young "would be recognized as the ultimate demonstration of fair play by the whole world."
Through his agent, Hamm declined comment, but he has said in the past that he has no intentions of giving up his medal unless ordered to do so by FIG.
