Gizur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gizur, Gizurr or Gissur was a wise King of the Geats.
Gizur was the foster-father of Heidrek, who made a coup-d'état in Reidgotaland, the land of the Goths (see Oium and the Chernyakhov culture).
During the battle, the old Gizur slays the Hun king Humli, but Hlöd arrives and splits Gizur in two with one slash of his sword.

Northvegr - A History of the Vikings
For behind the mission of Gizur and Hjalti there was unmistakably the sanction of Olaf Tryggvason's might, and this for a country so dependent as was Iceland upon the goodwill of Norwegian traders was formidable indeed.
But ecclesiastical administration was made easier by the appointment in 1056 of Isleif, son of Gizur the White, as bishop, for a native had advantages in the matters of language and authority that were denied to the foreign prelates.
Gizur Isleifsson, therefore, is a noble figure in Icelandic history, one of those rare political princes of the Church whose temporal power was no less than their spiritual authority.

Now Gizur's folk, seeing what had come about, took heart and fell upon Eric with a rush, and those who were with the dead thrall rushed at Skallagrim, and there began such a fight as has not been known in Iceland.
Gizur smites him with his sword, but Eric does not stay, and while men wait and wonder, Brighteyes sweeps him into his great arms--ay, sweeps him up, lifts him from the ground and reels on.
Then she caused the sails to be hoisted, and went alone aboard the long ship, the rails of which were hung with the shields of the dead men.

Then Gizur the White said, "Let us press on harder; nothing comes of our onslaught." Then they made a third bout of it, and were long at it, and then they fell off again.
But Gizur said, "I know not why thou wilt speak of that which no one else wishes, and that shall never be." Just then Thorbrand Thorleik's son, sprang up on the roof, and cuts asunder Gunnar's bowstring.

Back in Norway, Thangabrand's unfavourable reports infuriated Ólafur, who was only prevented from executing all Icelanders in the country by the Icelandic chieftain Gizur the White, who promised to champion the new religion at home.
Gizur mustered his forces and rode to the Alþing in 1000, where civil war was only averted by the lawspeaker Þorgeir, who – having made pagan and Christian alike swear to accept his decision – chose Christianity as Iceland's official religion, though pagans were initially allowed to maintain their beliefs in private.
Gizur the White's son Ísleifur became Iceland's first bishop in 1056, and his homestead at Skálholt near Þingvellir was made the bishop's seat, with a second, northern diocese founded in 1106 at Hólar.
