  Donald Duck
Gladstone was presented as a rather arrogant cousin that had a claim on Donald's house.
Gladstone does not yet lay claim to the title of "The Luckiest Duck In the World".
Gladstone would also rival his cousin in a treasure hunt in "Luck of the North", first published in December,1949.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Gladstone Gander
When Gladstone was introduced (Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #88, January 1948), he was merely a cousin of Donald Duck, whom Donald didn't like very much.
The attribute for which he's best known, the phenomenal luck, so reliable it would qualify as a super power if he were a superhero rather than a funny animal, came along later.
Gladstone may not be the sort of guy who makes a good hero, but he excels at providing obstacles for a story's main character to overcome.

 Gladstone Gander
It is implied in many stories that Gladstones' "good fortune" is not merely coincidental, but most likely "genetic." It seems the only way to counter or block his birth-charm is through magic, such as by Magica de Spell, or by means of some scientific invention by someone like Gyro Gearloose or Emil Eagle.
Gladstone confirms that "Luck sorta runs in the family," then he ominously waves to his young twin girl cousins (implying that there may be no end to Gladstone's "lucky" relatives).
Gladstone was an occassional guest star on "DuckTales." (see: DTA).

Who's who in Duckburg - Gladstone Gander
In The Sign Of The Triple Distelfink Don Rosa shows that the extreme luck that is connected to Gladstone (and also to his mother Daphne) is caused by a Triple Distelfink sign that old Humperdink Duck hired a man to paint ahead of one of the barn doors the day Daphne was born.
On one of his birthdays when he was still a kid (sometime in the 20's), Gladstone was almost hit by a lightning after Donald had him hang after a rope, ahead of the opposite barn door with an upside down Triple Distelfink sign painted ahead of it.
However this curse was ended when Gladstone was almost hit by another lightning when hanging after a rope (again caused by Donald) ahead of the barn door with the normal Triple Distelfink painted ahead of it.

 THELUCKSTER
Despite all his luck Gladstone has a hard time living in Duckburg since he is disliked (though tolerated) by almost everyone - Donald despices him for his luck, the nephews for his trampling on Donald, Daisy for his lacking personal qualities, and Scrooge for his unwillingness to do honest work.
It is a common belief that Gladstone only had one regular job in his entire life namely the one in which he earned a salary of one (one!) dime.
Gladstone thought that he had it made when he found the missing Scrooge on a tropical island, but the old miser did not want to be found.

Gladstone is exasperating to Donald because he has not earned his amazing, invincible good luck, which enables him to live quite comfortably without ever having to do an iota of work, which he arrogantly disdains.
Gladstone is lazy; the concept of work also seems to frighten him.
A red hot dime that falls into the snow enables Gladstone to find a wallet, and Barks is careful to have Gladstone get the money that Donald needs from a reward for finding the wallet, not by stealing it from the wallet itself.

The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Patate
That closely plotted plot deals with two men whose relationship bears many points of resemblance to that subsisting between Gladstone Gander and Donald Duck.
Donald is the hero of the play the "patate" (helpfully defined in the program as "schmoe; patsy; fall guy.") It turns out, however, that his primary concern for several decades has been to nourish vengeful, bitter (and, admittedly, not unjustified) hatreds against his rich "friend," meanwhile nourishing himself by borrowing the friend's money.
The patate is presented as a sweet guy, but in spite of the fact that he really is a patate, he is quite evidently more interested in doing dirt to ol' Gladstone than in doing good to any-body.

Woodsy Owl is probably the most annoying toon since Gladstone Gander — but his annoying traits have taken him farther.
Gladstone has only rarely been the main star of a story during his half-century-plus in comics; whereas since his introduction in 1970, Woodsy has not only steadily held the position of official spokestoon …
Gladstone is annoying because that's just the kind of guy he is, which makes him an excellent supporting character if not sympathetic enough to be a star.

These were produced by Disney after they withdrew Gladstone's license, but-- while presenting different material-- they are nearly identical in format and quality with Gladstone's own.
