Gladys Brockwell - Biography - Moviefone
An intelligent and versatile silent screen actress, Gladys Brockwell (née Lindeman) was the Brooklyn-born daughter of a struggling chorus girl.
On-stage herself from the age of three, Brockwell played ingénues at 11 and dramatic leading ladies at 15, an early stardom that would help her ease gracefully into character roles in the 1920s.
Had she lived, Gladys Brockwell may very well have been awarded the kind of roles that instead went to the likes of Ruth Chatterton and Lenore Ulric.

Born Gladys Lindeman, her mother was an actress who bore her child at a young age.
Brockwell claimed she had her first speaking part at age three and worked continuously in the theatre until appearing in her first movie in 1913 at age twenty.
The coming of the sound era was not a concern for Brockwell as she signed a long-term contract with Warner Brothers and immediately made her first talkie, "The Lights of New York," in which she was a gangster's moll.

Little remembered today, Gladys Brockwell was one of the most striking and outstanding dramatic characther actresses of the silent era.
And through the intensity and fearlessness of her acting, Gladys was often able to steal a scene from a leading performer in a much more prominent role.
When the talkies came in, Gladys made a smooth transition, but her untimely death in 1929 robbed audiences of a dynamic figure in the new medium.

 7th Heaven
Cast: Charles Farrell, Janet Gaynor, David Butler, Albert Gran, Gladys Brockwell, Ben Bard, Marie Mosquini, Emile Chautard, Brandon Hurst, Jessie Haslett.
But Farrell soon demonstrates his own distinctive warmth and bearing, and Gaynor communicates desperation, paralysis, convalescence, and romantic awakening as aptly as she does the shame and frenzy of the opening sequences.
As the film continues, it follows the same trajectory—not by abandoning Chico, exactly, but by directing our focus to his bonds with other characters, romantic with Diane, friendly and comradely with the others.
