Politics in Glasgow, Scotland, are evident in the deliberations and decisions of the city council of Glasgow (Glaschu in Gaelic), in elections to the council, and in elections to the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) and the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (Westminster).
Glasgow Corporation Transport, was under the control of the Glasgow Corporation, and ran the local buses and Glasgow Trams, until creation of the Strathclyde region in 1975.
The city council established in 1996 is a unitary authority, with powers and reponsibilites previously divided between councils of the Glasgow City district and the Strathclyde region.

As Audit Scotland today published its annual report on Scottish councils' environmental performance indicators [1], Green MSP Patrick Harvie said he was outraged by the lack of progress Glasgow City Council has made on recycling.
Glasgow has only achieved a 0.1% increase in the past year - that really is unacceptable." Glasgow has the sixth worst percentage rate of recycling out of all 32 of Scotland's local authorities.
Mr Harvie believes the Council's excuses bear no weight as the Council was awarded £9,389,500 from the fund in November 2003, £1,010,500 in 2003/04, £4,111,500 in 2004/05 and will receive a further £4,267,500 in 2005/06.

From 1990 to 2006, the Glasgow Conservation Trust West was a registered charity with a remit to conserve and promote the historic West End of Glasgow, one of the finest examples of Victorian town development in Britain.
Glasgow City Council intends to establish a city-wide conservation body -- with the support of Historic Scotland -- in the next financial year, but no details have been released as to the remit of this new organisation.

Glasgow City Council’s decision to establish a limited liability partnership to replace its Direct Labour Organisation has created more than 120 new jobs and a first within the local government sector in Scotland.
The new businesses – City Building (Glasgow) LLP and its sister business, City Building (Contracts) LLP – will now be in a position to bid for new contracts and early estimates suggest the workforce will swell to almost 2,300 as a consequence.
