	Glassphalt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Glassphalt (also spelled "glasphalt") is a variety of asphalt that uses crushed glass.
		Glassphalt must be properly mixed and placed if it is to meet roadway pavement standards, requiring some modifications to generally accepted asphalt procedures.
		Generally, there is about 10%-20% glass by weight in glassphalt.

		DISCUSSION: The glassphalt is not well compacted and in many places is extremely loose, creating pockets of gravel throughout the alley.
		Frazier Lewis Lane is a larger alley than those previously included in the Agency’s Alleywalk project, and staff is working with Joni Janecki and Associates, the alley architect, to develop a surface treatment which will break up and soften the large expanse.
		It is expected that the costs for replacing the faulty paving currently in place would be shared by the various parties once the responsibility for the poor performance of the glassphalt has been determined.

		The City of Baltimore, Maryland used glassphalt during the 1970s when the mayor initiated the revitalization of its downtown.

	Materials Recycled
		Director of Public Works Neal Kearn admits that there was initial skepticism about using glass in a roadway wearing course, but when they observed the results in a test section at the municipal garage it allayed all fears.
		Meanwhile, in Missouri, the Rolla Downtown Airport recently paved its 3000-foot runway with glassphalt.
