Glenn Miller’s focus was always on the entire orchestra, not on individual soloists—an emphasis that permanently estranged Miller from jazz purists and led jazz critics and musicians to debunk his music, then and now.
Miller’s AAF band was first-rate by any standards and included such outstanding sidemen as drummer Ray McKinley, saxophonist Hank Freeman, trumpeters 'Zeke' Zarchy and Bernie Privin, pianist Mel Powell, and vocalist Johnny Desmond, who moved to Chicago in 1948 to sing on Don McNeil’s Breakfast Club every weekday morning.
On Oct. 30, 1944, Miller and the entire AEF Band went to Studio 1 of HMV's (His Master's Voice) Abbey Road Studios in London (the same studios the Beatles would use some 20 years later) to record the first of six one-half hour radio programs to be beamed toward German troops.

Ken Miller, who's resided on Willow Glen Way for 20 years, said speeding traffic has been a concern for as long as he's lived there, but lately he fears for his family's safety.
Querta Miller said there are school-crossing signs posted in both directions on Bird Avenue, but for anyone driving southbound, the sign is often obscured by commercial vehicles and trees.
Miller said it's not just pedestrian safety that's at risk; drivers on Willow Glen Way trying to turn onto Bird Avenue have to "squeal their tires" to safely avoid oncoming traffic, he said.

Glen Allen Miller was born in Bancroft, Iowa, on July 23, 1920, to Raymond and Vera (Pefferman) Miller.
Glen was then employed as an electrician at Oliver/White Farm from 1966 to 1982.
Glen was also a member of the USS Augusta Association and he and "Lee" enjoyed attending the reunions held at various locations throughout the United States.

The boy that was born that night was named Alton Glen Miller (later changed to Glenn) and when he uttered his first cry, Clarinda heard Glenn Miller’s first "moonlight serenade." Glenn’s first serenade was not particularly unique as it had been sung by children for centuries and was barely heard across South 16th Street.
Captain Miller’s mission was morale building, bringing a touch of home to the troops and modernizing military music.
The Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band was extremely busy and Glenn wrote home that in one month they played at 35 different bases, while performing 40 radio broadcasts in their spare time.

Jeffrey Glenn Miller was a student at Kent State University, Ohio, when he was shot in the head and killed by Ohio National Guardsmen in the Kent State shootings on May 4, 1970, while protesting the Vietnam War.
